Bread With Purpose
In a converted old village shop in Våmhus, between Mora and Orsa, three passionate bakers are reviving ancient Swedish grain varieties and traditional baking methods. Leve Bröd ("Long Live Bread") creates sourdough that's as good for the earth as it is for your stomach. The bread we serve at Muntergården comes from Leve Bröd — so you can taste their exceptional sourdough at breakfast without leaving our B&B.
They bake all their breads from scratch using organic ingredients and heritage grains, carefully selected to benefit both the field flora and digestive health. The bakery works with forgotten heritage varieties that are now returning to Swedish fields — enkorn, emmer, svedjeråg, and Dala wheat. These ancient grains have fantastic flavors, are disease-resistant, and grow with longer roots that draw more nutrients from the soil.
Award-Winning Quality
At SM i Mathantverk (Swedish Championship in Food Crafts) in Borås, Leve Bröd won two bronze medals for their Lantbröd and Rågbröd (rye bread). The recognition confirms what locals already know — this bread is exceptional.
The Friday Café
Every Friday, the bakery opens in the old village shop in Bäck, outside Våmhus. Here you can start your day with Friday breakfast featuring porridge cooked with heritage grains, or enjoy fresh bread and buns with your fika.
The cozy setting in the historic building makes it a perfect destination for a weekend outing. The bakery has created a wonderful meeting place where ingredients, biodiversity, and people are at the center.
Pre-Order Your Bread
Can't make it on Friday? You can pre-order bread weekly via their website (by Wednesday evening). Pay with Swish and choose pickup either at the bakery in Våmhus or at Gumman Grön in Mora.
Note: Muntergården serves Leve Bröd sourdough at breakfast — you can taste their incredible bread without leaving our B&B!
More Than Just Bread
Beyond the Friday bakery sessions, Leve Bröd offers sourdough courses, group activities like pizza evenings for 10-14 people, runner's breakfasts, and supplies bread to local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.
